Will you make me do silly things like in a stage show? Most people’s only experience of hypnotism is either from a stage hypnotist that they have seen on TV - someone who makes his audience perform silly tricks and appear to be out of control. The truth is that, despite appearances, the participants are 100% in control. They are willing to perform in a certain way for the audience. When the stage hypnotist selects his "team" he always asks something similar to "Who wants to come on stage and have a lot of fun here tonight?" Those that raise their hands have already mentally agreed that they will be willing participants. And, in the CONTEXT of the performance they will engage in seemingly silly acts. The person under hypnosis is ALWAYS in control. If the stage hypnotist was to suggest to them that they throw themselves off a building do you think they would? Of course not. No one has that type of power. I, for example, could ask you now to prepare for the treatment by turning the lights down and taking the phone off the receiver and I’m sure you would. However if I asked you to stand on your chair and bark like a dog. You would refuse. In the CONTEXT of this therapy my first two requests were reasonable but the third clearly out of the question. In fact, you know this must be true. If hypnosis had the power to control people's minds, you would have read about me in the news as first I hypnotized naughty school children into behaving in class and then prison inmates into mending their criminal ways before making my way to the United Nations to hypnotize world leaders into behaving themselves! No one can make you do something you do not want to do. The concept of hypnotized or programmed "zombies" is a Hollywood fabrication that is very entertaining in movies like The Manchurian Candidate and The Stepford Wives but does not have any factual basis.
